Sky Sports F1® heads to Formula 1's newest racing venue this weekend, the street circuit of Baku, Azerbaijan. Perched on the Caspian Sea, Baku is the ultimate 'east meets west' city with a European and Middle Eastern influence on food and architecture.
At the centre of Baku lies the city's fortress walls, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. On the outskirts of the old city though are modern day masterpieces of steel and glass, wooded parks perfect for a late afternoon stroll, and a beautiful promenade which makes the perfect destination for enjoying some seafood or a glass of wine.
The name Baku comes from Persian, meaning 'wind-pounded city', and in winter it truly can be a wind battered coastal city...but this time of year the weather is far nicer with the temperature reaching the low 30s.
Ready for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, we've teamed up with Ted Kravitz of Sky Sports F1® again for his latest edition of the Smart Travel Notebook.
Join Ted from his 360 degree rooftop view of Baku as he gives his tips on what to see and where to eat, plus some top tips to avoid any trouble with the local police. Ted tells us how far your pounds will go when eating out in Azerbaijan's capital, why you should head to the nearby mud volcanoes and what there is to see on Baku's seafront.
