10 things to remember before you go on holiday

  1. Check if you need a Visa before entering the country. Places like Turkey require you to purchase a Visa before you enter the country. Take a quick look online and book your Visa before you travel.

  3. Locate your passport and check it’s in date. It may seem like an obvious to-do but it’s surprising how many of us forget where we stashed our passport, or suddenly remember that our passport selfie really is ten-years-old!

  5. Email yourself copies of your passport. If you happen to misplace your passport whilst abroad, it’s a good idea to have a copy of it with you when applying for a replacement.

  7. Record important phone numbers somewhere other than your phone and purse. Having a back-up copy of important contact details, such as the lost/stolen phone number on the back of your FairFX Card is a good alternative if you lose your phone/it runs out of battery/you can’t get internet connection.

  9. Make sure you have a back-up method of payment for when you’re abroad. You may be tempted to use your debit/credit card but did you know you can get a Family & Friends card which links directly to your primary FairFX Card? If you lose your card whilst you’re away, ensure you can still access your funds. Find out more here

  11. Apply for a free European Health Insurance Card. This smart card will enable you to “access state-provided healthcare in European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free. It will cover your treatment until you return to the UK.”

  13. Download useful travel apps such as TripIt, which saves your travel details and itinerary onto your phone and creates directions to your destinations. No more trying to source North on your paper map.

  15. Add a name tag to your bags. Unfortunately this happens at the worst and the best of times, so don’t get caught short without your bags encase you or your airline lose your luggage.

  17. Tell your bank before you go. If you find yourself having to use your debit or credit card whilst away, avoid them being blocked by informing your bank of your upcoming holiday.

  19. Get insured. Travel insurance is a real biggie, it might seem like an unnecessary expense but it could save you a fortune if you have an accident abroad. Don’t immediately go for the cheapest option but read the fine print and compare policies to get the best deal.

Use a FairFX card rather than exchanging money at the airport and you’ll get more travel money to spend on your holiday. Order your FairFX Prepaid Mastercard® now.
